Absolutely not. Both of our classes welcome complete beginners, including children who have never tried any martial arts before. We guide every child from the very basics, so they can start at any time, at any experience level.
Yes. Taekwondo is an Olympic sport and one of the most widely practised martial arts in the world. Its mix of kicking technique, patterns and controlled sparring builds coordination, fitness and focus, and the belt system gives children clear goals to work towards.
For the first class, comfortable sports clothes are fine — a t-shirt and jogging bottoms work well. Bare feet are normal. Once you join, you'll need a Taekwondo dobok (uniform), which we can advise on.
We take children from age 4 in Little Panthers, and from 7 up to 17 in Cadets. Younger siblings are welcome to watch from the side with a parent.
Gradings take place periodically through the year. Students progress through coloured belts by demonstrating technique, patterns (poomsae) and sparring skills. Children grade when they are ready — no pressure.
Once you're a member, you'll eventually need a dobok, sparring pads and protective gear. We'll guide you on exactly what to buy and when — don't worry about any of this for the trial.
Yes. As part of the British Taekwondo network, students can compete at local, regional and national level when ready. Competing is entirely optional.
Safety is our top priority. Our instructor is DBS Enhanced checked, first aid certified, and trained to work with young children. Sessions are structured, supervised and age-appropriate throughout.
For the trial class - yes, parents are welcome to stay and watch inside the hall. For regular classes, there's seating in the main church just next to the hall.
